Hailey Johnson is an interdisciplinary artist, mother, curator, and founder of Hammerspace Gallery. She is interested in the ecological conditions that support artistic life, bringing together exhibitions, writing, public programming, and artist development to explore questions of care, labor, embodiment, and creative sustainability. Working at the intersection of contemporary art and community-building, she creates structures that that foster critical dialogue and sustained creative inquiry.

Her artistic practice emerges through close observation of childhood, using her son’s gestures, language, impulses, and ways of encountering the world as a point of departure for exploring larger human experiences. Working across installation, performance, ephemeral works, and exhibition-making, she translates these observations into environments that consider embodiment, connection, care, and the ways we make meaning. Her practice is rooted in anongoing attention to the ordinary, the sensory, and the relational.
